Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchung – German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Investigation Agency

image The German federal agency responsible for aviation accident investigations that is the equivalent to the United States National Transportation Safety Board NTSB. The Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchung is subordinated to the Federal Ministry of Transport and is responsible for the investigation of civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents within Germany.

The fundamental purpose of the BFU is: To improve aviation safety by determining the causes of accidents and serious incidents and making safety recommendations intended to prevent recurrence.
