Burnishing

To make a metal surface smooth with a mechanical action, but without a decrease in material. Usually you will find it on a plain bearing surface. It is possible to see surface discoloration around the outer edges. Usual burnishing that is caused by operational service is not dangerous if the coverage approximates the load it carries and there is no evidence of burns.
