METAR – Aviation Routine Weather Report

The international standard code format for hourly surface weather observations. METAR roughly translates from French as Aviation Routine Weather Report and is predominantly used by pilots in fulfillment of a part of a preflight weather briefing, and by meteorologists, who use aggregated METAR information to assist in weather forecasting.
